Mobile Tyre Replacement - 24/7 mobile callout

Not every tyre job is an emergency. Most replacements are planned - tyres coming up to the legal limit, an advisory on last year's MOT, uneven wear that has finally reached the wear bars, or a set that has simply aged out.

Booking a mobile fitter for planned work costs no more than an emergency callout and removes the part everybody dislikes: the drive to the garage, the wait, and the second drive back.

From £49 fitted - tyre, fitting, balancing, valve, disposal, call-out and VAT included

Knowing when tyres are actually due

Every tyre has moulded wear indicators sitting at 1.6mm in the main tread grooves. When the tread is level with those bars, the tyre is at the legal limit - not approaching it. Most tyre professionals and road safety organisations recommend replacing at 3mm rather than running to 1.6mm, because wet braking distance deteriorates sharply below 3mm as the grooves lose the volume to clear water.

Wear pattern tells you why a tyre is finished, which matters because otherwise the new one goes the same way. Wear concentrated on both outer edges is chronic underinflation. Wear down the centre strip is overinflation. Wear on one edge only usually means camber or a tracking fault. Scalloped or feathered patches point to worn suspension components. If we see any of those, we tell you, because fitting a new tyre onto an unresolved alignment problem simply destroys the new tyre.

UK car tyre tread depth, from new to illegalA new car tyre has around 8mm of tread. Most tyre professionals recommend replacing at 3mm, because wet braking deteriorates sharply below that. The UK legal minimum is 1.6mm across the central three quarters of the tread and around the entire circumference. Below 1.6mm the penalty is up to £2,500 and three penalty points, per tyre.3mm1.6mm8mm3mm1.6mm<1.6mmDepth measured in the main grooves
  • 8mm - New tyre. Roughly what a new car tyre starts with.
  • 3mm - Replace here. Wet braking falls away sharply below this.
  • 1.6mm - Legal minimum. Across the central ¾ of the tread, around the whole circumference.
  • <1.6mm - Illegal. Up to £2,500 and three penalty points - per tyre.
The legal minimum is 1.6mm across the central three quarters of the tread and around the whole circumference. The penalty is up to £2,500 and three penalty points per tyre - four illegal tyres is twelve points. Most of the trade replaces at 3mm, because wet braking falls away sharply below that.

Age, not just mileage

Rubber degrades with time and exposure regardless of how far the car has been driven. The DOT code moulded into the sidewall ends in four digits: the first two are the week of manufacture and the last two the year - so 2523 means the twenty-fifth week of 2023.

There is no legal maximum age for a car tyre in the UK, but there is for others: since February 2021 it has been illegal to fit tyres aged ten years or over to the front axle of lorries, buses and coaches, or to any axle of a minibus. Most manufacturers advise inspecting any tyre over five years old annually and replacing at ten regardless of tread. Cars that sit unused - second cars, classics, caravans and motorhomes - routinely fail on age long before they fail on tread.

Pairs, axles and four-wheel drive

Where only one tyre has failed, the ideal is still to replace across the axle so both sides have matched grip and the car behaves predictably under braking. Where a pair is fitted to a two-wheel-drive car, the new tyres go on the rear axle even if it is front-wheel drive. That surprises people, but the reasoning is straightforward: a car that loses grip at the front understeers and slows, whereas one that loses grip at the rear oversteers and spins, and the rear is the axle you cannot correct with the steering wheel.

On four-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive vehicles the tolerance is tighter again. Several manufacturers specify a maximum permitted difference in rolling circumference across the vehicle, because a persistent mismatch loads the centre differential or transfer case continuously and can destroy it. On those vehicles we will tell you honestly if a single tyre is a false economy.

How it works

How a tyre replacement job runs

No garage. No tow truck. No waiting room. A qualified fitter at your location, fast.

  1. 01

    Tell us where you are

Call, WhatsApp or send a booking request with your postcode, vehicle registration and tyre size if you have it. The registration is usually enough for us to identify the correct fitment.

  2. 02

We confirm the tyre and the price

We check stock for your size, speed rating and load index, and confirm the total you will pay before anything is booked. No charge is added afterwards.

  3. 03

    The van comes to you

Roadside, driveway, car park or workplace. The van carries the tyres, the balancer and the tooling, so the job is completed where the vehicle already is.

  4. 04

    Fitted, balanced and checked

New tyre fitted, wheel balanced, valve replaced, pressures set and torque checked to the manufacturer figure. The old tyre goes with us for recycling.

FAQ

Mobile Tyre Replacement - common questions

Straight answers to the things people actually want to know before they call - including the ones that cost us a sale.

What is the legal tread depth in the UK?

For cars, the legal minimum is 1.6mm across the central three quarters of the tread and around the entire circumference of the tyre.

The penalty for driving on a tyre below that is up to £2,500 and three penalty points - per tyre. A car with four illegal tyres can therefore attract twelve points, which is enough to lose a licence.

Most tyre professionals and road safety organisations recommend replacing at 3mm rather than running to the limit, because wet braking distances deteriorate sharply once the grooves no longer have the volume to clear standing water.

Will you have my tyre size on the van?

Give us your registration and we will identify the exact fitment - size, load index, speed rating and any original-equipment marking your vehicle requires - and check stock before we set off.

If your size is not on the van we will tell you that on the phone, not after we arrive, and we will tell you when we can have it.

What does the £49 actually include?

£49 is the total you pay, not a starting point that grows. It covers the tyre, the fitting, the wheel balancing, a new valve, disposal and recycling of the old tyre, the call-out itself and VAT.

What changes the total is the tyre your vehicle actually needs - its size, load index and speed rating, whether it is a run-flat, whether it carries an original-equipment marking, and whether you choose budget, mid-range or premium. We confirm the full price before anything is booked, and nothing is added afterwards.

How old is too old for a tyre?

Every tyre carries a DOT code on the sidewall ending in four digits: the first two are the week of manufacture, the last two the year. So 2523 means the twenty-fifth week of 2023.

There is no legal maximum age for a car tyre in the UK. There is for others: since February 2021 it has been illegal to fit tyres aged ten years or over to the front axle of lorries, buses and coaches, or to any axle of a minibus.

Most manufacturers advise inspecting any tyre over five years old annually and replacing at ten regardless of tread depth. Vehicles that sit unused - second cars, classics, caravans and motorhomes - routinely fail on age long before they fail on wear.
