MOE
Mercedes Original Extended - run-flat
MO, MO1 and MOE
MO - Mercedes Original - identifies a tyre developed for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. MO1 is the AMG-specific variant, developed for the higher loads and speeds those cars generate. MOE denotes a Mercedes Original Extended, which is the run-flat version.
These matter because the chassis, and on air-sprung cars the suspension calibration, are developed around that specific casing. An unmarked tyre of the same nominal size will fit, but it changes the steering response and, on AMG models, the high-speed stability the car was signed off with.
Run-flats without a spare
A large proportion of Mercedes models leave the factory with MOE run-flats and a tyre sealant kit rather than a spare wheel. The 50 mile, 50mph rule applies, and so does the consequence: a run-flat that has been driven on flat is finished.
Vans are a different specification entirely
A Sprinter or Vito needs a C-rated commercial tyre with a much higher load index than a car of the same wheel size, and the load index is calculated for the vehicle fully laden. Fitting a passenger tyre to a light commercial is an MOT failure and a real safety risk on a loaded van.
