Common sizes and what that means for you
Golf, Polo, Passat and Tiguan sizes are high-volume fitments, so stock is rarely the constraint and the choice across budget, mid-range and premium is genuinely wide. That is worth knowing because it means you are choosing on merit rather than taking whatever is available.
The ID range is a different proposition
The ID.3, ID.4 and ID.5 are heavy, rear-motor electric cars, and they take EV-specific fitments with higher load indices - often XL or HL rated - and in many cases acoustic foam. They should not be treated as a Golf with a battery when it comes to tyre selection.
Transporter and Caddy
Volkswagen light commercials need C-rated commercial tyres rated for the laden weight, not the passenger equivalent in the same size. This catches out owners of camper conversions in particular, where the vehicle is permanently loaded well above what it looks like it weighs.
