Tesla mobile tyre fitting
A Tesla is heavier than almost any comparable car of its size, delivers full torque from zero, and has no engine noise to hide road roar. All three change what the tyre has to do, and all three are reasons a generic replacement disappoints the owner within a fortnight.
Sidewall markings
Tesla original-equipment marks
If your car left the factory on a marked tyre, the replacement should carry the same mark. They are not decoration.

Weight, load index and the reason cheap tyres fail early
A Model Y weighs comfortably over two tonnes before passengers, and that mass is carried low in a floor-mounted battery pack. Tesla fitments therefore carry high load indices, frequently with XL or HL designations, and the load index on the replacement must at least match the figure on the door pillar plate.
Instant torque compounds it. An electric motor applies peak torque from a standstill, which scrubs the driven axle far harder than a combustion car of the same power. Owners moving from petrol cars routinely report getting noticeably less mileage from the same nominal tyre, and that is the reason.
Acoustic foam and the T0/T1/T2 markings
Many Tesla original fitments contain a polyurethane foam layer bonded to the inside of the tread, which damps the cavity resonance you would otherwise hear as a drone in the cabin. Replacing an acoustic tyre with the standard version of the same model produces an immediate and very obvious increase in road noise.
Tesla also uses its own OE marks - T0, T1 and T2 - identifying tyres developed specifically for its cars. A T-marked tyre differs from the standard version in construction and compound, and on a Tesla the range figure is calibrated around it.
The foam also changes puncture repair. The foam has to be cut back around the injury and the repair applied to the liner beneath it, then the area made good. A fitter who is not expecting foam will not do this properly.
Jacking and TPMS
The battery pack is structural and forms the floor. Teslas have designated reinforced jacking points and a jack pad adapter; lifting on the sill anywhere else risks damaging the pack casing, which is a very expensive mistake.
Tesla moved from a Baolong to a sensor system using a different radio protocol partway through Model 3 and Model Y production, so the correct sensor depends on build date rather than model year alone.
